How to Check Your CIBIL Report Free Before a Home Loan

Published 11 October 2026 · 6 min read · Clean EMI Editorial

Before a PSU bank looks at a home loan application, it reads your credit report. Checking that report yourself first lets you spot errors, see your score and understand what a lender will notice. This guide covers how to get your report, what to look for, and how a free report analyzer turns it into loan figures.

Part of the Home Loan guide series.

Where to get your CIBIL report

You can request your own report from the CIBIL (TransUnion) website. The bureau sets its own terms for consumer reports, so check its site for the options available to you today. Save the PDF as downloaded. A clean original reads more accurately than a photo or a screenshot.

What to check, line by line

  • Loan or card accounts you do not recognise.
  • Loans shown as open that you have closed, or closed loans still showing a balance.
  • Wrong sanctioned amounts, outstanding balances or EMI figures.
  • Late payments you believe were on time.
  • Enquiries you did not make.

Each error you find is worth raising with the bureau in writing, with supporting documents and a copy of what you sent.

Using a free analyzer

Upload the PDF to the Free CIBIL Report Analyzer to see which loan types you may be eligible for and an indicative EMI. It is an estimate for information only, not a loan offer. If your score is below 700, read the Credit Score Enhancer guide first.

What to prepare before you apply

Gather your PAN, Aadhaar, income proof and recent bank statements. The home loan from PSU banks page lists the full eligibility points and documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free to check my CIBIL report?

The bureau sets its own terms for consumer reports, so check its website for current options. Analysing a report you already have with the Free CIBIL Report Analyzer is free.

Does checking my own report lower my score?

A check you make on your own report is recorded as a self-enquiry and is generally not treated as a loan application.

What if my report has an error?

Raise a written dispute with the bureau, attach supporting documents and keep a copy. Ask the lender that reported the entry to correct its record as well.
