What a Blank or NA CIBIL Score Means

Published 13 October 2026 · 5 min read · Clean EMI Editorial

Some borrowers check their CIBIL report and find the score shown as blank, NA or not available. It can be alarming, but it is usually a sign of limited recent credit activity rather than a bad record. This article explains why a score may not appear, what a bank may review instead, and how to build a file that a lender can assess for a home loan.

What the blank or NA means

A score is calculated from recent credit activity on the report. If there is no account with recent reporting, or the file does not contain enough information for the bureau to calculate a score, the score may show as blank or NA. This describes the file, not your character, and it does not by itself mean a loan is refused.

Why it happens

  • You have not borrowed or used a credit card for some time
  • Your accounts were closed and no new activity has been reported since
  • You are new to formal credit, for example a first job or a first home purchase
  • The lenders you use have not reported your accounts to the bureau yet

In each case the report is simply thin. The fix is to add a clear record of repayment over time.

What a bank may look at instead

Where a score is not available, a bank typically looks at other evidence of repayment. That can include bank statements showing regular salary or business income, rent or utility payments in some cases, and savings history. Income tax returns and salary slips help show the ability to carry an EMI. The bank decides what evidence it will accept.

Building a file from the start

Priya, who had never taken a loan, opened a small secured account with her bank and used a credit card for a few regular bills, paying the full statement each month. After several months her report started to show activity, and the score began to appear. The approach was slow but clear, and she kept the balances low throughout.

Before you apply

Check the report for any entries that should not be there, and keep the documents that show your income and savings in order. Use the credit analyzer to see how the file reads. The home loan page explains the general product. For the bank’s own profile, see Central Bank of India.

Clean EMI’s minimum CIBIL requirement of 700 applies to its loans. The final decision rests with the lending bank.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a blank or NA score the same as a low score?

No. A low score reflects weak repayment history, while a blank or NA score usually reflects too little recent activity to calculate a score.

Can I still get a home loan with no CIBIL score?

Possibly, but it depends on the bank. The bank may review other evidence of income and repayment. Clean EMI’s loans require a minimum CIBIL of 700, so a score is needed for an application through Clean EMI.

How long does it take to build a score?

It depends on how quickly activity is reported and on how the bureau calculates the score. Several months of regular, on-time activity is a common starting point, but the timing varies.
